Von Gootkin sat down with The Manual to teach us how to host the perfect gentleman's poker night, complete with real clay betting chips and red velvet smoking jacket. 'The goal is to host a poker. Hosting a poker night can be costly, but it doesn't have to be. When I started hosting these games, I didn't have the ability to provide food, drinks, cigars and pay for the event supplies. It's only as my career has progressed that I've been able to offer more as a host. Here are some ideas of what to provide for various budgets. (Unless of course your poker night is just a one-time special occasion!) If you've set a date, don't change it. It's a common temptation when a few folks cancel on you, but the reality of life is that you won't have everyone present all the time. With a recent poker night, only three of the eight guys I invited could make it. Some hosts of home poker games shell out for a professional poker dealer, but this can be expensive. Better yet, some hosts deal the cards themselves, or offer a free buy-in to a player who volunteers to be both a player and a dealer. Playing both dealer and player can be stressful, but it's a good option if everyone wants to play. The overriding key to success in hosting a successful poker event lies in thorough and proper planning. By obtaining essential accessories, organizing food and beverages, setting ground rules, and mastering consistent scheduling, you will be on your way to becoming the host of the home game that everyone wants to play in. SPRINGFIELD, MA (Feb. 6, 2020)–MGM Springfield will welcome Costa, a classic Italian restaurant serving housemade charcuterie, pizzas, pastas, salads, desserts and more to the resort's food and beverage portfolio on Feb. 28. The concept will celebrate the spirit of time-honored craftsmanship and tradition with an epicurean adventure that derives inspiration from the culinary landscape of Italy.
This will be Costa's third outpost, having debuted as Osteria Costa at The Mirage Las Vegas and MGM National Harbor in 2018. Costa at MGM Springfield will be similar to its sister restaurants with first-class service standards and a relaxed ambiance yet will offer exclusive menu items inspired by the tastes and fare of the region. Costa will be located in the Cal Mare space, which will close Feb. 24.
'Authentic Italian cuisine is a hallmark of our South End neighborhood in downtown Springfield,' said Vice President of Hospitality for MGM Springfield Anthony Caratozzolo. 'We're honored to celebrate those traditions and make new memories with one of our own original restaurants. An Italian paradise awaits with a diverse selection of antipasti, handcrafted pastas, Neapolitan pizzas, hearty entrees, grilled seafood and more. Expertly prepared in the restaurant's hearth oven, the Neapolitan style pizza will be baked with a variety of toppings including flavorful meats and seafood.
